Apple Watch vs Galaxy Watch
vs Pixel Watch
Our overall winner is the Apple Watch Series 12. All three flagship smartwatches are brand new for fall 2026. Your phone narrows the choice fast, so we compared them round by round on health, battery, screen, fitness and AI.

The short answer
Start with your phone. On an iPhone, the only real choice is the Apple Watch Series 12: it does not work with Android, and the Galaxy and Pixel watches do not work with iPhone. Series 12 has the deepest health tracking of the three, with hypertension and sleep apnea notifications, an ECG, a daily sleep score and a new readiness score.
On Android, it is Galaxy Watch9 vs Pixel Watch 5. Pick the Galaxy Watch9 for the brightest, toughest screen (up to 3,000 nits behind sapphire glass), body composition readings and a 2-year US warranty. Pick the Pixel Watch 5 for the longest battery here (up to 40 hours on the 45mm with always-on display), dual-frequency GPS and the best Gemini features.
All three launched between August and September 2026, so these are the newest models. Smartwatches are a popular category during Prime Big Deal Days (October 6–7, 2026), and new flagships rarely get deep discounts in their first month, so treat any deal as a bonus.

Who wins where
The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.
- Round 1
Health sensors
Apple Watch Series 12 winsSeries 12 has the longest health list: hypertension notifications, sleep apnea notifications, an ECG, blood oxygen, wrist temperature and a new readiness score. Galaxy Watch9 can check blood pressure, but you must calibrate it with a cuff first. Pixel Watch 5 is the only one with Loss of Pulse Detection, which can call for help.
- Round 2
Battery
Google Pixel Watch 5 winsThe 45mm Pixel Watch 5 lasts up to 40 hours with the always-on display on, and up to 72 hours in Battery Saver. Galaxy Watch9 (44mm) is rated up to 30 hours with always-on, 40 with it off. Apple Watch Series 12 is rated up to 24 hours, but a 15-minute charge gives you up to 12 more.
- Round 3
Display
Galaxy Watch9 winsGalaxy Watch9 and Pixel Watch 5 both reach 3,000 nits, so both are easy to read in sunshine. The Galaxy wins on toughness: its screen is sapphire crystal, and the watch passes MIL-STD-810H tests. Apple’s wide-angle OLED tops out at 2,000 nits but looks great from any angle.
- Round 4
Fitness and GPS
TieGalaxy Watch9 and Pixel Watch 5 both have dual-band GPS for accurate routes between tall buildings. Galaxy adds a Fitness Index and body composition readings. Pixel adds Google Health Coach plans. Apple counters with Pacer, Heart Rate Zones and Workout Buddy, which talks you through your workout.
- Round 5
Smart features and AI
Google Pixel Watch 5 winsPixel Watch 5 is designed for Gemini and shows helpful info, like flight updates, before you ask. Galaxy Watch9 lets you raise your wrist and talk to AI with no wake word. Series 12 brings Siri AI and Audio Intelligence (some features arrive in beta later in 2026).
- Round 6
Phone compatibility
TieNo watch wins this round, because your phone decides it. Apple Watch needs an iPhone. Galaxy Watch9 and Pixel Watch 5 need Android and do not work with iPhone at all. Galaxy watches work best with Samsung phones, where you get every health feature.
- Round 7
Value
Galaxy Watch9 winsThe Galaxy Watch9 US version on Amazon includes a 2-year warranty (the Pixel Watch 5 listing: 1 year), plus a sapphire screen and the most sensors for the money. Samsung watches also tend to get discounted sooner after launch. Check today’s prices, since all three start at similar levels.

Quick tips before you buy
Apple Watch is iPhone only. Galaxy and Pixel watches are Android only.
The 44–46mm models hold bigger batteries. Smaller wrists still suit 40–42mm.
Battery ratings change a lot with always-on display. Turn it off for an extra day.
Health alerts are good for spotting trends. Talk to a doctor before acting on them.
Quick answers
Does the Galaxy Watch9 or Pixel Watch 5 work with iPhone?+
No. Both need an Android phone. The Pixel Watch 5 needs Android 12 or newer, and the Galaxy Watch9 works best with a Samsung Galaxy phone. If you have an iPhone, get the Apple Watch.
Galaxy Watch9 or Pixel Watch 5: which is better?+
On a Samsung phone, get the Galaxy Watch9 for its sapphire screen, blood pressure checks and 2-year warranty. On a Pixel or other Android phone, the Pixel Watch 5 has longer battery (up to 40 hours on the 45mm) and the smartest Gemini features.
Which smartwatch has the best battery life?+
The 45mm Pixel Watch 5: up to 40 hours with the always-on display, or 72 hours in Battery Saver. Apple Watch Series 12 is rated up to 24 hours (38 in Low Power Mode).
Can these watches check blood pressure?+
In different ways. Apple Watch Series 12 sends hypertension notifications when it sees signs of high blood pressure. Galaxy Watch9 measures blood pressure after you calibrate it with a cuff (sold separately). Neither replaces a real blood pressure monitor.
Should I buy last year’s model instead?+
If you want to save money, last year’s Apple Watch Series 11 and Galaxy Watch8 are still good, and they are more likely to be on deep discount. See our best smartwatches list for more options.
