Nanit vs Owlet
Which smart baby monitor?
Our overall winner is the Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor (wall mount). Nanit and Owlet are the two big names in smart baby monitors, but they solve different problems. We compared five of their current models on Amazon before the baby-gift season.
How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

The short answer
The short answer: Nanit is a camera-first monitor, and Owlet is a health-first monitor. The Nanit Pro is the one to buy if you mainly want a great video feed, sleep tracking and a calm app. It records sleep sessions automatically, tracks the room’s temperature and humidity and sends alerts for sound and motion. The Owlet Dream Sock is the one to buy if you want pulse rate and oxygen readings with alerts when they leave preset zones. It does not have a camera at all.
If you want both, the Owlet Dream Duo 3 pairs the Dream Sock with a 2K camera in one system, and it is the most complete (and most expensive) pick here. If you only need the video, Owlet’s Dream Sight camera costs far less than a full Duo. For families who like a dedicated screen, the Nanit Pro system with an 8-inch display adds a portable touchscreen that works on your local network, even if the internet goes down.
Who should skip both? If you want a simple monitor and no monthly fees, a basic audio or video monitor is cheaper and easier. Smart monitors lean on apps, Wi-Fi and, for some features, subscriptions. Also keep the limits in mind: neither product replaces safe sleep practice, and Owlet’s Dream Sock is intended for healthy infants of 1 to 18 months. Talk to your pediatrician if you have health concerns. How we picked: we compared the current Nanit and Owlet listings on Amazon, their bullets and what owners report. We have not tested them hands-on. Listings checked October 2026.

Why each one made the list
What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.
- 1. Best Camera and Sleep Tracking
Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor (wall mount)
BeastScore 92 / 100Typically $280–$300 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Nanit Pro is the pick for parents who care most about what they can see and learn. The camera streams 1080p video to your phone, Alexa or Google Home, with infrared night vision and two-way audio. The listing says it tracks sleep duration, efficiency and disturbances automatically, watches the room’s temperature and humidity, and sends customizable alerts for sound and motion. Nanit Insights, its sleep analysis plan, offers a free trial, and the listing says some features need a plan. Access can be shared with partners, grandparents and nannies, with 256-bit AES encryption and two-factor authentication. This version mounts to the wall, and a floor-stand version is sold separately. It does not track pulse or oxygen, so it will not replace an Owlet for that, and some of the sleep features sit behind a subscription.
Pros- Automatic sleep tracking and cry or cough detection
- Easy sharing with other caregivers, with strong security
- Wall mount gives a clear top-down view of the crib
Cons- No pulse or oxygen tracking
- Full sleep insights need a subscription after the trial
- Wall mounting means drilling into drywall or plaster
- 2. Best for a Dedicated Screen
Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor System with 8-inch Display
BeastScore 89 / 100Typically $380–$420 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)This is the Nanit Pro with a built-in parent screen. The listing says the system includes a portable 8-inch touchscreen with a 3 to 6 hour battery that charges in under 2.5 hours, so you can leave your phone out of the bedroom. The camera has the same 1080p video, night vision and two-way audio as the standard Pro, plus automatic sleep tracking, baby positioning and nursery temperature and humidity. A local network mode keeps viewing working when the internet drops, and you can log feeds and diaper changes by hand. The camera setup needs internet access and a subscription step, according to the listing. At roughly $400 it costs about $100 more than the camera alone. A good fit if you want a screen on the nightstand.
Pros- Parent screen means no phone needed at night
- Local viewing keeps working during internet outages
- Same excellent camera and sleep tracking as the Nanit Pro
Cons- Costs about $100 more than the camera alone
- Battery lasts only 3 to 6 hours on the display
- Initial setup needs a subscription and internet
- 3. Best for Health Tracking
Owlet Dream Sock
BeastScore 90 / 100Typically $280–$320 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Dream Sock is the odd one out because it is not a camera at all. It is a soft sock that tracks your baby’s pulse rate and oxygen level and sends alerts on the Base Station and your phone when readings leave preset zones. The listing calls it the best-selling smart baby monitor in the US (Circana data) and says it is intended for healthy infants of 1 to 18 months, 6 to 30 lbs. Owlet also adds Predictive Sleep Technology to help you plan wake windows. It is a good fit for parents who feel anxious at night and want extra reassurance. Because it has no camera, you would pair it with a separate video monitor or step up to the Dream Duo 3. Owners praise the peace of mind, and some report false alarms from a loose fit.
Pros- Real-time pulse and oxygen tracking with alerts
- Alerts go to both the Base Station and your phone
- One of the most-reviewed smart baby monitors on Amazon
Cons- No video, so you need a second monitor
- Only for healthy infants of 1 to 18 months
- Owners report false alarms when the fit is loose
- 4. Best All-in-One
Owlet Dream Duo 3
BeastScore 91 / 100Typically $390–$450 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Duo 3 combines the Dream Sock with Owlet’s 2K HD Dream Sight camera so health data and video live in one app. The listing says the sock is FDA-cleared and uses pulse oximetry to track pulse and oxygen, while the camera adds a 130-degree wide-angle lens and 4x zoom, night vision, and notifications for sound, movement and crying. It also tracks room temperature and humidity and says it carries the SGS Cybersecurity Mark, with 256-bit encryption for video and health data. The price is the catch. Duo versions are listed from about $390 to $450 depending on the bundle, so it is the most expensive pick here, and some bundles add months of Owlet 360 premium reports. Buy it only if you want both features.
Pros- Pulse, oxygen and 2K video in one app
- Sharper than the 1080p cameras from Nanit
- Independent cybersecurity mark and 256-bit encryption
Cons- Most expensive option here
- Same 1 to 18 month limit as the Dream Sock
- Prices vary a lot between bundle versions
- 5. Best Value Camera
Owlet Dream Sight Camera
BeastScore 86 / 100Typically $160–$180 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)If your main need is a sharp picture, the Dream Sight is the cheapest way into the Owlet app. The listing says it streams 2K HD video with night vision and 4x zoom, and it includes a floor stand with two height settings and full 360-degree pan and tilt, so you can slide it under furniture and get a top-down view. Like the Duo, it says it carries the SGS Cybersecurity Mark and 256-bit encryption. It does not track pulse or oxygen, and it is a newer listing with a small owner base, so there is less long-term feedback than for the Nanit or the Dream Sock. Pair it with a Dream Sock later if you want health tracking.
Pros- 2K video for under $200
- Floor stand with pan, tilt and two heights
- Independent cybersecurity mark and strong encryption
Cons- No pulse or oxygen tracking on its own
- Newer listing with few owner reviews so far
- Sleep insights are not as detailed as the Nanit

Who wins where
The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.
- Round 1
Video quality
Owlet Dream Duo 3 winsOwlet’s Dream Sight camera, included in the Duo 3, streams 2K HD with a 130-degree lens and 4x zoom. Nanit’s Pro cameras stream 1080p with infrared night vision. Both are clear, but Owlet is sharper on paper.
- Round 2
Health tracking
Owlet Dream Sock winsOnly Owlet tracks pulse rate and oxygen level, using the FDA-cleared Dream Sock. Nanit’s listings cover sleep, sound, motion and room conditions, not vital signs. If health readings matter to you, Owlet is the clear winner.
- Round 3
Sleep insights
Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor (wall mount) winsNanit tracks sleep automatically from the camera, with sleep duration, efficiency, disturbances and next-nap predictions. Owlet offers Predictive Sleep Technology and Owlet 360 reports, but the Nanit app is built around sleep from the start.
- Round 4
Screen and setup
Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor System with 8-inch Display winsNanit sells a system with a portable 8-inch display that keeps working on your local network if the internet drops. Owlet relies on the phone app and its Base Station for alerts, with no dedicated video screen.
- Round 5
Price
Owlet Dream Sight Camera winsThe Dream Sight camera costs far less than the other four options, and the Dream Sock and Nanit Pro cost about the same. The Duo 3 is the most expensive. Check live prices, since bundles and sales change often.

Quick answers
Is Nanit or Owlet better?+
It depends on what you want. Nanit is better for video and sleep tracking. Owlet is better if you want pulse and oxygen alerts, and the Dream Duo 3 gives you both with a 2K camera.
Does Nanit track breathing or heart rate?+
The Nanit Pro listings here track sleep, sound, motion, temperature and humidity. They do not claim to track pulse or oxygen. Nanit has also sold a breathing-tracking add-on, but we did not find it on Amazon US, so check its own site if that matters to you.
Do I need a subscription for Nanit or Owlet?+
Both work out of the box, but some features are part of paid plans. Nanit Insights unlocks deeper sleep tracking after a free trial, and Owlet 360 adds premium reports. The 8-inch Nanit listing also notes that setup needs a subscription step.
Is the Owlet Dream Sock FDA-cleared?+
The Dream Duo 3 listing says the Dream Sock is FDA-cleared. It is meant for healthy infants of 1 to 18 months and 6 to 30 lbs, and it does not replace safe sleep habits or medical advice.
Can I use Nanit and Owlet together?+
Yes, many parents pair a Nanit camera with an Owlet Dream Sock. The Dream Duo 3 saves you from running two apps by bundling the sock with a camera.
Does the Nanit work without internet?+
The 8-inch display system keeps viewing working over your local network when the internet drops. The camera setup itself needs Wi-Fi and internet. Other Nanit versions rely on your phone and the cloud.
Which is better for a newborn?+
For a newborn under about a month, the Dream Sock is not intended for babies under 1 month, so a camera such as the Nanit Pro is the usual choice. After a month, you can add the sock if you want vital sign alerts.
