Theragun vs Hypervolt
Which massage gun wins?
Our overall winner is the Hyperice Hypervolt 3. Therabody’s Theragun and Hyperice’s Hypervolt are the two names most people search. We matched their heated full-size guns and their travel guns on grip, noise, heat, battery and price.
How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

The short answer
For most people, the Hyperice Hypervolt 3 is the better buy. It has a heated head attachment, five speeds, a built-in pressure sensor, up to four hours of battery and a carry case, and it usually costs well under the heated Theragun. Hyperice’s QuietGlide motor also makes it one of the quieter full-size guns you can buy.
Pick the Theragun Prime Plus if you want to massage your own back and shoulders without help. Its patented triangle handle gives you more angles than the Hypervolt’s slanted pill-shaped grip, it has three heat levels you set on the device, and it works with Therabody’s Plus attachments, like Cold Plus. For travel, the Hypervolt Go 3 gives you five speeds and up to four hours of battery for less money, while the Theragun Mini (3rd Gen) is the smaller, more pocketable choice.
Skip the Hypervolt 3 if you mostly need to treat your mid-back alone, since a straight handle makes that awkward. Also note that both Hypervolt 3 models are newer listings with fewer owner reviews than the long-running Theragun line. If you only want gentle relief, neither of the full-size guns is necessary: see our guide to which Theragun to buy for the softer Relief. Why each one made the list
What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.
- 1. Best Value Heated Gun
Hyperice Hypervolt 3
BeastScore 90 / 100Typically $230–$250 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Hypervolt 3 gives you the most for the money. The listing says it ships with five attachments, including a Heated Head, five speeds and a pressure sensor that guides how hard you push, plus Bluetooth routines in the Hyperice app. It weighs about 2 lb and runs up to four hours on its 18V charger, which is longer than most full-size guns. QuietGlide keeps the noise down, and a carry case comes in the box. It is a newer listing, so there are fewer owner reviews yet. The straight, slanted handle is also harder to use on your own mid-back than a Theragun’s triangle.
Pros- Heated head and five attachments for well under the heated Theragun
- Up to four hours of battery
- Quiet motor and a carry case included
Cons- Straight handle makes your own back hard to reach
- Newer listing with fewer owner reviews
- Heat comes from one attachment, not the whole device
- 2. Best for Reach & Heat Control
Theragun Prime Plus
BeastScore 89 / 100Typically $400–$430 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Prime Plus is the Theragun to pick against the Hypervolt 3. The listing says it has five speeds and three heat levels set right on the device, four attachments, and Therabody’s patented triangle handle, which lets you hold it at odd angles to reach your own shoulders, lats and lower back. It is drop-resistant and pairs with the Therabody app for guided routines. It also works with the Plus attachments, such as Cold Plus for fresh injuries and Vibration Plus for sore joints. Owners like the heat on stiff lower backs. The downsides: it costs a lot more than the Hypervolt 3, and the add-ons cost extra.
Pros- Triangle grip reaches your own back with no help
- Three heat levels controlled on the device
- Expands with Cold Plus and Vibration Plus add-ons
Cons- Costs much more than the Hypervolt 3
- Battery life not stated on the listing
- Plus attachments are sold separately
- 3. Best Travel Value
Hyperice Hypervolt Go 3
BeastScore 88 / 100Typically $130–$150 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Go 3 is the cheapest way into either brand and still feels like a real massage gun. The listing gives it five speeds, up to four hours of battery and USB-C charging in a 1.6 lb body with a short angled handle. That is more speeds and more battery than the Theragun Mini, for a lot less money. It comes with two heads, Flat and Wedge, plus a carry case, and QuietGlide keeps it quiet enough for a hotel room. It is a new model, so owner feedback is still building. It is also bigger than the Mini, and there is no heat.
Pros- Five speeds and up to four hours of battery
- Much cheaper than the Theragun Mini
- USB-C charging and a carry case
Cons- Only two attachments
- Bulkier than the palm-sized Mini
- No heat option
- 4. Most Pocketable
Theragun Mini (3rd Gen)
BeastScore 86 / 100Typically $200–$220 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Mini is the smallest gun here. The listing says the 3rd Gen is 30% smaller, lighter and quieter than the original and fits in the palm of your hand, with a travel lock so it won’t switch on in a bag. You get three attachments, one more than the Go 3, including a Thumb for knots, and up to 180 minutes of battery over USB-C. It is the better pick if you want something that slips into a jacket pocket. Against the Go 3, though, it has fewer speeds, a little less battery and a higher price, and with no handle your own back is hard to reach.
Pros- Smallest and most pocketable of the four
- Three attachments, including a Thumb for knots
- Travel lock and TSA compliant
Cons- Costs more than the Go 3 with fewer speeds
- No handle for reaching your back
- No heat option

Who wins where
The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.
- Round 1
Grip and reach
Theragun Prime Plus winsTheragun’s triangle handle is its biggest advantage. You can hold it from three sides and reach your shoulders, lats and lower back by yourself. Hypervolt’s slanted pill-shaped handle is comfortable, but a straight grip makes your own mid-back awkward.
- Round 2
Noise
Hyperice Hypervolt 3 winsHyperice builds QuietGlide into both the Hypervolt 3 and Go 3, and quiet running is one of the things owners praise most about the brand. Theragun is much quieter than it used to be, and the Mini 3rd Gen is quieter than the original, but Hypervolt still has the edge.
- Round 3
Heat
Theragun Prime Plus winsBoth full-size guns offer heat. The Prime Plus has three heat levels you control on the device. The Hypervolt 3 heats through its Heated Head attachment. Theragun gives finer control; Hypervolt gives heat for far less money. Neither travel gun has heat.
- Round 4
Battery
Hyperice Hypervolt 3 winsBoth Hypervolts are listed at up to four hours. The Theragun Mini is listed at up to 180 minutes. The Prime Plus listing doesn’t state a figure, so check the listing if battery matters to you.
- Round 5
Travel size
Theragun Mini (3rd Gen) winsThe Mini is the one that fits in a pocket, with a travel lock and TSA-compliant design. The Go 3 is bigger at 1.6 lb with a short handle, but gives you five speeds and more battery for less money.
- Round 6
Value
Hyperice Hypervolt 3 winsAt full size, the Hypervolt 3 includes heat and five attachments for much less than the Prime Plus. At travel size, the Go 3 undercuts the Mini too. Theragun charges more for its grip, its add-on system and its longer track record.

Quick tips before you buy
If you live alone, reach matters most. A triangle handle reaches your own back far more easily than a straight one.
Heat is best before a workout or on stiff muscles. Skip heat on fresh injuries and swelling.
Hypervolt 3 uses an 18V wall charger; the Go 3 and Theragun Mini charge over USB-C. Pack the right one.
Every massage gun gets louder at top speed. Use low speeds at night or when others are nearby.
Quick answers
Is Theragun better than Hypervolt?+
Neither is better at everything. Theragun wins on grip and reach thanks to its triangle handle, and on add-ons. Hypervolt wins on noise, battery and value. For most people, the Hypervolt 3 is the better buy; pick Theragun if you need to reach your own back.
Which is quieter, Theragun or Hypervolt?+
Hypervolt. Hyperice’s QuietGlide motor is one of the brand’s main selling points, and owners often mention it. Recent Theraguns are much quieter than older models, but Hypervolt still has the edge.
Theragun Mini vs Hypervolt Go 3: which should I buy?+
Buy the Go 3 for more speeds (five vs three), more battery (up to four hours vs 180 minutes) and a lower price. Buy the Mini if you want the smallest possible gun that fits a pocket, plus a third attachment.
Do Theragun and Hypervolt have heat?+
Yes, on some models. The Theragun Prime Plus has three heat levels built in. The Hypervolt 3 ships with a Heated Head attachment. The travel models in this guide have no heat.
Can you use Theragun attachments on a Hypervolt?+
No. Each brand uses its own fitting. Theragun Plus attachments like Cold Plus only fit Theragun Plus models, and Hypervolt heads fit Hypervolt guns.
Which massage gun is best for back pain?+
If you need to reach your own back, the Theragun Prime Plus, because the triangle handle and heat suit stiff lower backs. Talk to a doctor first if your pain is from an injury or does not go away.
