Apple TV 4K vs Fire TV Stick 4K Max
vs Roku Ultra
Our overall winner is the Apple TV 4K (128 GB, Wi-Fi + Ethernet). All three stream 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The real differences are speed, the home screen, the remote and which phone or smart home you already use.

The short answer
The Apple TV 4K is the best streamer you can buy. Its A15 Bionic chip makes it the fastest of the three, the home screen has no ads, and it works hand in hand with an iPhone, AirPods and Apple Home. The 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet model adds a wired port and room for apps and games.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max gives you the same 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos picture for much less, plus Wi-Fi 6E and the Alexa Voice Remote Pro. The Roku Ultra is the easiest to use, has the best remote of the three (rechargeable, backlit, hands-free “Hey Roku”), and works with any phone.
One thing to know: Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is expected to show a new Apple TV 4K around a home-focused event on October 13. Apple has not announced anything. If you want an Apple TV, it may be worth waiting a week to see what comes out.

Who wins where
The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.
- Round 1
Picture and sound
TieAll three stream 4K with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos. On the same TV, you will not see a real difference between them. Your TV and internet speed matter more than the box.
- Round 2
Speed
Apple TV 4K (128 GB, Wi-Fi + Ethernet) winsThe Apple TV’s A15 Bionic is a phone-class chip, and menus and apps feel instant. The Roku Ultra is 30% faster than other Rokus, and the 4K Max is Amazon’s fastest stick. Both are quick, just not Apple quick.
- Round 3
Home screen
Apple TV 4K (128 GB, Wi-Fi + Ethernet) winsThe Apple TV home screen is just your apps, with no ads. Roku’s grid of apps is the simplest to learn but shows ads. Fire TV’s new 2026 home screen is built around Alexa+ picks and Prime Video, and shows ads too.
- Round 4
Remote
Roku Ultra winsThe Roku Voice Remote Pro is rechargeable, backlit, has a lost remote finder and listens hands-free for “Hey Roku.” Fire TV’s Remote Pro is close: backlit, with a remote finder and two custom buttons. Apple’s Siri Remote is sleek, but has no backlight or finder.
- Round 5
Smart home
TieApple TV is the best Apple Home hub, so it runs your HomeKit devices when you are away. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the pick for Alexa homes, with Alexa+ built into the remote. Roku has its own smart home app but fewer links to other brands.
- Round 6
Value
Fire TV Stick 4K Max winsThe 4K Max gives you the same picture as the Apple TV for a fraction of the price, and it often drops further in Amazon sales. The Roku Ultra sits in the middle.

Quick tips before you buy
Apple TV shines with an iPhone. Roku and Fire TV work the same with any phone.
Apple TV and Roku Ultra have an Ethernet port. A wired link is the steadiest for 4K.
All three are 4K players. On an older HD TV, you won’t see the extra detail.
Dolby Atmos only helps with an Atmos soundbar or TV connected over HDMI eARC.
