The short answer
For most people, the DJI Mini 5 Pro is the better buy. It now has a 1-inch, 50 MP camera with an f/1.8 lens, the same sensor size as the Air 3S main camera, in a drone that folds down small enough for a jacket pocket. It shoots 4K/60fps HDR with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, 4K/120fps slow motion and true vertical video, and it has forward LiDAR for obstacle sensing at night. For travel, hiking and social video, that is everything most pilots need.
Pick the DJI Air 3S if you want a second camera. Its medium tele lens gives you a tighter, more cinematic view of buildings, cliffs and people without flying closer, and the listing claims 45 minutes of flight time and 20 km of video range. The Air is also bigger and heavier, which owners say makes it steadier in strong wind. If you want to save money, the Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo is the older Mini with a smaller sensor, but it comes with the screen remote and three batteries, and it is still a very capable drone.
Skip the Mini 5 Pro if you fly near the coast or in mountains with frequent strong wind, or if you shoot a lot of real estate or landscape work where a true tele camera saves time. That is what the Air 3S is for. And skip both if this is your very first drone and you just want to learn: a cheaper beginner drone is less painful to crash. This comparison is based on the DJI listings on Amazon US and what owners report; we did not fly these drones ourselves. Rules on drone weight and registration change, so check FAA guidance before you fly. Checked October 2026.

Why each one made the list
What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.
- 1. Best for Most People
DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo
BeastScore 93 / 100Typically $900–$1,000 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Mini 5 Pro closes most of the gap with the Air. The listing gives it a 1-inch 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens, 4K/60fps HDR with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, 10-bit D-Log M and 4K/120fps slow motion. The gimbal rotates 225° for true vertical video, and a forward LiDAR plus vision sensors give it omnidirectional sensing even at night. This Fly More bundle includes three batteries, a charging hub, ND filters and the RC-N3 remote, which uses your phone as the screen. The trade-off: no second camera, and a small drone fights strong wind harder.
Pros- 1-inch camera in a drone that folds to pocket size
- LiDAR and omnidirectional sensing, even at night
- True vertical video for Reels and TikTok
Cons- No true tele camera, only a 2× crop mode
- Light frame struggles more in strong wind
- RC-N3 needs your phone as the screen
- 2. Best Camera Power
DJI Air 3S
BeastScore 91 / 100Typically $700–$800 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Air 3S is for pilots who want more than one look from the same flight. It pairs a 1-inch main camera with a medium tele camera, so you can switch from a wide landscape to a tight, compressed shot of a building or a person without moving the drone. The listing claims up to 45 minutes of flight and 20 km of video transmission, plus forward LiDAR for night obstacle sensing and a smarter Return to Home. Owners like how steady the bigger body is in wind. It is bulkier to pack, and this base kit has just one battery.
Pros- Second tele camera for more cinematic framing
- Long 45-minute flight time by the listing
- Bigger, steadier body in wind
Cons- Bulkier and heavier to carry on hikes
- This base kit has one battery; the Fly More combo costs more
- Heavier class of drone means more rules to check
- 3. Best Value
DJI Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo
BeastScore 87 / 100Typically $850–$950 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)The Mini 4 Pro is the older Mini, and it is still a great drone. The listing says it weighs under 249 g, so recreational pilots can skip registration with the standard battery, and it shoots 4K/60fps HDR with true vertical video. It has omnidirectional obstacle sensing and 20 km FHD transmission. This Fly More Combo includes the DJI RC 2 remote with a built-in screen and three batteries for up to 102 minutes total. The sensor is smaller than the 1-inch chips in the Mini 5 Pro and Air 3S, so night and sunset shots are noisier, and it lacks LiDAR.
Pros- Sub-249 g with the standard battery
- Includes the RC 2 screen remote and three batteries
- Proven drone with a big owner base
Cons- Smaller sensor than the 1-inch Mini 5 Pro and Air 3S
- No LiDAR for night obstacle sensing
- Costs close to the newer Mini 5 Pro bundle

Who wins where
The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.
- Round 1
Main camera
TieThis used to be the Air’s big win. Now the Mini 5 Pro and Air 3S both use 1-inch sensors, both shoot 4K/60fps HDR with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, and both do 10-bit color. For one-camera shooting, owners report very similar results. The Mini 4 Pro’s smaller sensor is a clear step behind.
- Round 2
Zoom and second camera
DJI Air 3S winsThe Air 3S has a real medium tele camera. The Mini 5 Pro has a 48mm 2× Med-Tele mode, which is a crop of the main sensor. For compressed, cinematic shots of buildings, cliffs and people, the Air’s second lens is the main reason to buy it.
- Round 3
Size and portability
DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo winsBoth Minis fold down small enough for a jacket pocket or a small bag. The Air 3S is noticeably bigger and heavier. If you hike, travel light or want a drone you actually bring every day, the Mini wins.
- Round 4
Flight time and wind
DJI Air 3S winsThe Air 3S lists up to 45 minutes per battery, and its heavier body is steadier in gusts, which owners point out on coasts and mountains. The Minis are lighter and get pushed around more in strong wind.
- Round 5
Obstacle sensing
TieThe Mini 5 Pro and Air 3S both have forward LiDAR and omnidirectional vision sensing for low-light flying, plus Next-Gen Smart Return to Home. The Mini 4 Pro has omnidirectional sensing but no LiDAR.
- Round 6
Value
DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo winsThe Mini 5 Pro Fly More bundle gives you three batteries, a charging hub and ND filters with a 1-inch camera. The Air 3S base kit costs less but has one battery; matching the Mini’s kit pushes it well above. For most buyers, the Mini is the better deal.

Quick tips before you buy
Look up FAA registration and Remote ID rules for your drone and battery before your first flight.
One battery is a short flight. Three batteries and a charging hub turn a quick hop into a real shoot.
Small drones get pushed around in strong gusts. Check the wind forecast and keep battery to spare for the trip home.
An RC-N3 uses your phone as the screen. An RC 2 has its own bright screen, so your phone stays free.
Quick answers
DJI Mini 5 Pro vs Air 3S: which is better?+
For most people, the Mini 5 Pro. It now has a 1-inch camera like the Air 3S in a much smaller drone. The Air 3S is better if you want its second tele camera, longer flights and more stability in wind.
Does the DJI Mini 5 Pro have the same camera as the Air 3S?+
Both main cameras use a 1-inch sensor and shoot 4K/60fps HDR with up to 14 stops of dynamic range. The Air 3S adds a second medium tele camera; the Mini 5 Pro offers a 2× Med-Tele crop mode instead.
Do I need to register a DJI Mini drone?+
The Mini 4 Pro listing says it is under 249 g with the standard battery, so recreational pilots can skip registration. Heavier batteries, add-ons and commercial use change that. Check the FAA rules and the listing for your exact drone and battery.
Is the Air 3S worth the extra size?+
Yes if you shoot landscapes, buildings or real estate where a tele lens saves time, or if you often fly in wind. If you mostly want travel clips and vertical social video, the smaller Mini 5 Pro gives you nearly the same main camera.
Should I buy the Mini 4 Pro or the Mini 5 Pro?+
The Mini 5 Pro, if the prices are close. It upgrades to a 1-inch sensor and adds forward LiDAR. The Mini 4 Pro still makes sense if you find it much cheaper or want the RC 2 screen remote included.
What is a Fly More Combo?+
It is DJI’s bigger bundle. It usually adds extra batteries, a charging hub, spare propellers and a carry bag to the drone and remote. The Mini 5 Pro bundle here includes three batteries, a charging hub and ND filters.
Which DJI drone is best in wind?+
The Air 3S. It is larger and heavier than the Mini drones, and owners report it holds its position better in gusts. Any drone can be blown off course, so check the forecast and fly with battery to spare.
