Garmin vs Apple Watch
Which one fits your wrist?

Our overall winner is the Apple Watch Series 12. Garmin builds the best training watches. Apple builds the best smartwatch for an iPhone. We compared five current models from both brands so you can pick the one that matches how you live and train.

How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

Apple Watch Series 12

The short answer

The short answer: if you carry an iPhone and want a true smartwatch, buy the Apple Watch Series 12. It replies to messages, pays at the register, unlocks your Mac and tracks your health with the deepest set of features on the list. If you care more about battery life and serious training data, buy a Garmin. The Forerunner 570 and Venu 4 run for more than a week between charges by the listings, while an Apple Watch is rated for about a day.

Pick by situation. Runners and triathletes should look at the Garmin Forerunner 570: training readiness, Garmin Coach plans and button controls that work with sweaty hands. People who want a watch that looks good all day and still tracks sleep and workouts should look at the Garmin Venu 4 or the thinner Venu X1. Anyone who wants a cheaper Apple option can take last year’s Apple Watch Series 11, which still has most of the same health features and often sells for less.

Who should skip the top pick? Android users cannot use an Apple Watch at all, so Garmin is the answer for you. If you hate charging a watch every night, the Series 12 will annoy you, and a Garmin is the better buy. And if you mostly want step counts and notifications, none of these is cheap: a $500 Garmin is more than you need.

How we picked: we compared current models from both brands on Amazon using the listings, the specs each brand publishes and what owners report. We do not test hands-on, and we do not quote star ratings or live prices. Price bands were checked in October 2026.

Every pick, explained

Why each one made the list

What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.

  1. 1. Best Smartwatch for iPhone

    Apple Watch Series 12

    BeastScore 92 / 100Typically $380–$430 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)

The Series 12 is the most complete smartwatch here. The listing says it measures heart rate variability as often as every five minutes and takes background heart rate readings every five seconds, which feeds a readiness score that tells you when to rest or push. It also gives a daily sleep score, blood oxygen readings, cycle tracking and fall and crash detection. Because it is an Apple Watch, it plugs into everything on your iPhone: texts, Apple Pay, your keys and your Mac. Battery is the weak spot. It is rated for up to 24 hours, so you charge it every night, though a 15-minute top-up gives up to 12 hours.

    Pros
    • Deepest health and sleep tracking of the five
    • Works with every iPhone app, Apple Pay and Siri
    • Fast charging makes the short battery easier to live with
    Cons
    • Only about a day of battery by the listing
    • Needs an iPhone, no Android support
    • Training data is less detailed than a Garmin’s
  2. 2. Best Apple Value

    Apple Watch Series 11

    BeastScore 89 / 100Typically $350–$400 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)

Last year’s model is the smart way to buy an Apple Watch. The listing names hypertension notifications, a daily sleep score, an ECG app, sleep apnea notifications, fall and crash detection and Check In, which can tell a loved one when you arrive. That covers most of what the Series 12 does. The version listed here is the larger 46mm case, so the screen is easier to read than the 42mm Series 12. Owners are very happy with it: it is one of the most-reviewed smartwatches on Amazon. What you give up is the newer readiness feature and some sensor upgrades, and you inherit the same one-day battery.

    Pros
    • Nearly all the health features of the newest model
    • Large 46mm case with an easy-to-read screen
    • Usually priced below the Series 12
    Cons
    • Also needs a daily charge
    • Lacks the Series 12 readiness experience
    • iPhone only
  3. 3. Best Everyday Garmin

    Garmin Venu 4

    BeastScore 90 / 100Typically $500–$550 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)

The Venu 4 is the Garmin that most Apple Watch shoppers should look at. It has a bright, colorful AMOLED screen and a stainless steel look, but the listing promises up to 12 days of battery life, which is the whole reason to go Garmin. Health tracking covers heart rate, Body Battery energy monitoring, stress, a sleep score with coaching and a health status alert that flags changes in heart rate, HRV and skin temperature. It works with both iPhone and Android. The trade-offs are the smartwatch side: replying to texts from an iPhone is limited, there is no real app store and it costs more than the Apple Watches here.

    Pros
    • Up to 12 days of battery by the listing
    • Works with iPhone and Android
    • Sleep coaching and Body Battery are easy to understand
    Cons
    • Weaker smartwatch features than an Apple Watch
    • Costs more than a Series 11 or 12
    • Thicker at 12.5 mm than the Venu X1
  4. 4. Best for Runners

    Garmin Forerunner 570

    BeastScore 91 / 100Typically $500–$550 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)

The Forerunner 570 is the training tool of the group. It gives you training readiness, built from sleep quality, recovery, training load and HRV, plus training status that shows whether you are productive, peaking or strained. Garmin Coach plans adapt to how you recover. The listing promises up to 11 days of smartwatch battery and 18 hours with GPS on, enough for a full marathon block between charges. Physical buttons still drive the menus, which beats a touchscreen when your hands are wet. It is aimed at runners, so daily smartwatch tricks are plainer than on an Apple Watch. Owners rate it highly.

    Pros
    • The best training metrics and coaching on the list
    • Up to 18 hours of GPS battery
    • Button controls work when you are sweaty or wearing gloves
    Cons
    • Not a full smartwatch: no real apps and limited replies
    • Priced above the Apple Watches
    • Sporty look may not suit a suit sleeve
  5. 5. Best Design

    Garmin Venu X1

    BeastScore 86 / 100Typically $650–$700 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)

The Venu X1 is for people who think Garmins look too sporty. The listing calls it the thinnest Garmin watch, about 8 mm thick, with a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, a titanium caseback and the brand’s biggest 2-inch AMOLED screen. It is light, at 34 grams, and the listing says it fits wrists from 140 to 230 mm. Battery is rated up to 8 days in smartwatch mode and 16 hours with GPS, shorter than the Venu 4 but far longer than any Apple Watch. It tracks HRV, sleep, Body Battery and Pulse Ox and has more than 100 sport apps. It is the most expensive watch here, and the screen is large for small wrists.

    Pros
    • Thin, light and premium with a sapphire lens
    • Up to 8 days of battery by the listing
    • Large 2” AMOLED screen is easy to read
    Cons
    • The most expensive watch in this comparison
    • Shorter battery than the Venu 4 and Forerunner 570
    • 51mm size can overwhelm small wrists

Round by round

Who wins where

The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.

  1. Round 1

    Battery life

    Garmin Venu 4 wins

This is not close. The Venu 4 lists up to 12 days, the Forerunner 570 up to 11 days and the Venu X1 up to 8 days. The Apple Watch Series 12 is rated for up to 24 hours, and the Series 11 is about a day. Apple’s fast charging helps, but you still charge nightly.

  2. Round 2

    Smartwatch features

    Apple Watch Series 12 wins

An Apple Watch is a small iPhone on your wrist: replies, Apple Pay, Siri, your keys and every app. Garmins show notifications and let you answer calls, but they do not match this. The Series 12 wins, with the Series 11 close behind.

  3. Round 3

    Health and sleep

    Apple Watch Series 12 wins

Both brands track heart rate, sleep and HRV. The Series 12 adds a readiness score, hypertension notifications, ECG and cycle tracking. Garmin answers with Body Battery, stress and a health status alert on the Venu 4. We give the edge to Apple for medical-style features.

  4. Round 4

    Training and running

    Garmin Forerunner 570 wins

The Forerunner 570 has training readiness, training status, VO2 max insight and adaptive Garmin Coach plans for running and triathlon. Apple’s Workout app is excellent for most people, but it does not coach you the way Garmin does.

  5. Round 5

    Design and comfort

    Garmin Venu X1 wins

The Venu X1 is about 8 mm thin, weighs 34 grams and has a sapphire lens. Apple’s watches are also slim and polished, and the 42mm Series 12 suits smaller wrists. For pure thinness at a large screen size, the X1 wins.

  6. Round 6

    Value

    Apple Watch Series 11 wins

The Series 11 costs $350 to $400, less than any Garmin here, and keeps almost every health feature. Garmins cost $500 to $700, but you get days of battery and deeper training tools. If the price matters most, buy the Series 11.

Quick tips before you buy

Your phone decides first

Apple Watch works only with iPhone. Garmin works with iPhone and Android.

Count charging days

Apple Watch is a nightly charge. These Garmins run 8 to 12 days between charges.

Check the case size

Measure your wrist. The Venu X1 is 51mm, while the Series 12 listing is a 42mm case.

Swimmers, check the rating

Look for a swim mode and 5 ATM water rating in the listing before you buy.

Quick answers

Is Garmin or Apple Watch better for running?+

Garmin, for serious training. The Forerunner 570 adds training readiness, training status and adaptive Garmin Coach plans, and it runs up to 18 hours with GPS on. An Apple Watch is fine for casual runs.

Which has better battery life, Garmin or Apple Watch?+

Garmin by a wide margin. The Venu 4 lists up to 12 days and the Forerunner 570 up to 11 days. The Apple Watch Series 12 is rated up to 24 hours, though fast charging gives up to 12 hours in 15 minutes.

Can I use a Garmin with an iPhone?+

Yes. All three Garmins here pair with iPhone and Android through the Garmin Connect app. Notifications work well on iPhone, but replying to messages is more limited than on an Apple Watch.

Can I use an Apple Watch with Android?+

No. Apple Watch needs an iPhone to set up and use. If you have an Android phone, choose a Garmin, a Galaxy Watch or a Pixel Watch.

Garmin Venu 4 or Apple Watch Series 12: which should I buy?+

Buy the Apple Watch if you have an iPhone and want texting, Apple Pay and the smartest watch. Buy the Venu 4 if you want a watch that lasts more than a week and you are happy with simpler smart features.

Is the Garmin Forerunner 570 worth it over a cheaper Garmin?+

If you follow a training plan, yes. The Forerunner 570 gives you training readiness and Garmin Coach. If you just want step and sleep tracking, a cheaper Garmin or last year’s Apple Watch is plenty.

Do Garmin watches have Apple Pay?+

No. Garmin Pay is the brand’s own system and works with supported banks and cards, but not Apple Pay. If tapping to pay with Apple Wallet matters, an Apple Watch is the better choice.
