Instant Pot vs Ninja
Which multi-cooker should you buy?
Our overall winner is the Instant Pot Duo Plus. Instant Pot made the electric pressure cooker famous. Ninja answered with faster heat, ceramic pots and multi-cookers that steam, crisp and bake. We compared five current models from both brands.
How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

The short answer
The short answer: the Instant Pot Duo Plus 6 Qt is the multi-cooker most people should buy. It is a proven pressure cooker with a huge owner base, nine functions, a stainless steel pot and a price near $80. If you want faster cooking and an easy-clean ceramic pot, the Ninja HyperHeat is the closest rival. The listing says it cooks up to twice as fast as slow cooking and the pot is PFAS-free.
Pick by situation. If you want one machine to pressure cook and air fry, the Instant Pot Duo Crisp 8 Qt gives you an air fry lid that reaches 450°F. If you want to retire the toaster oven too, the Ninja Combi steams, air fries and bakes in one countertop oven. For slow-cooked family dinners and big batches, the Ninja PossibleCooker PRO has an 8.5 quart pot and goes in a 500°F oven.
Who should skip the top pick? If you rarely pressure cook and mostly want crispy food, the Instant Pot Duo Plus is the wrong tool: an air fryer or the Duo Crisp fits better. If you are wary of nonstick coatings, the stainless steel pots on the Instant Pots are the safer choice, and the PossibleCooker does not pressure cook at all, so don’t buy it expecting a pressure cooker.
How we picked: we compared current models from both brands on Amazon using the listings, the specs each brand publishes and what owners report. The older Ninja Foodi pressure cooker names have been replaced on Amazon by newer Ninja models, so we chose the ones you can buy today. We do not test hands-on, and we do not quote star ratings or live prices. Checked October 2026.

Why each one made the list
What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.
- 1. Best Overall
Instant Pot Duo Plus
BeastScore 92 / 100Typically $70–$90 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Duo Plus is the pick because it does the core job, pressure cooking, with the least fuss and a very low price. Nine functions cover pressure cooking, slow cooking, sauté, sous vide, steam, sterilize, keep warm, rice and yogurt. It has 15 one-touch programs, a clear display that shows time, temperature and pressure, and an Easy-Release switch that makes venting steam safer. The pot is 18/8 stainless steel with a tri-ply base that sears well, and the 6-quart size feeds up to six. It has one of the largest owner review bases of any kitchen appliance. It does not air fry or crisp, and a stainless pot needs a little more scrubbing than nonstick.
Pros- Proven pressure cooker with a very large owner base
- Stainless steel pot with no coating to wear off
- Sous vide and yogurt modes at a low price
Cons- No air fry or crisping function
- Stainless pot can stick if you skip the oil when searing
- Slower to come to pressure than newer Ninja models
- 2. Best Pressure + Air Fry Combo
Instant Pot Duo Crisp
BeastScore 89 / 100Typically $200–$230 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Duo Crisp swaps the lid to turn a pressure cooker into an air fryer. The listing says the air fry range runs from 70°F to 450°F and describes EvenCrisp technology that uses 95% less oil than deep frying. Eleven functions cover air fry, roast, bake, dehydrate, pressure cook, slow cook, sauté, steam, sterilize, warm and rice. You pressure cook a pot roast, then crisp the top without moving it. The stainless pot is oven-friendly and has silicone handles. The catch is the second lid: you need space to store it, and the air fry lid is slower to wash than a basket. It is also the second most expensive pick here.
Pros- Pressure cook and air fry in one pot
- Air fry range up to 450°F
- Stainless steel pot with silicone handles
Cons- Two lids to store and clean
- Air fry basket is smaller than a dedicated air fryer
- Costs about three times the Duo Plus
- 3. Fastest and Easiest to Clean
Ninja HyperHeat PC201
BeastScore 90 / 100Typically $150–$180 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)This is Ninja’s answer to the Instant Pot, and it focuses on speed and cleanup. The listing says HyperHeat builds pressure quickly and cooks up to 2x faster than slow cooking. It fits a 4 lb chicken or a 5 lb roast and feeds eight to ten, so it is bigger than the 6 quart Instant Pot. The removable SimpliServe pot is PFAS-free ceramic nonstick, so it wipes clean after high-heat searing and goes from cooker to table. Rice cooks in as little as eight minutes, excluding pressure time. The trade-offs: it costs about twice the Duo Plus, nonstick coatings wear over time, and it has fewer years of owner history behind it.
Pros- Fast pressure build and a roomy 6.5 qt pot
- PFAS-free nonstick pot wipes clean easily
- Serve straight from the pot
Cons- Priced well above the Duo Plus
- Nonstick coating needs plastic or wood tools
- Newer design with a shorter track record
- 4. Best Countertop Oven Combo
Ninja Combi SFP701
BeastScore 87 / 100Typically $230–$260 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Combi is not a pressure cooker, and that is the point. It is a countertop oven that combines super-heated steam with rapid air so food comes out juicy inside and crisp outside. The listing says it cooks frozen chicken with no defrosting, finishes a full meal of protein, vegetables and rice or pasta in about 15 minutes, and fits a 6 lb roast chicken, a 10-inch pizza or 2 lbs of fries. Fourteen functions include bake, broil, toast, proof, sous vide, slow cook and air fry. It takes the toaster oven’s counter space but replaces several appliances. The compromises: no pressure cooking, a big footprint and the highest price here.
Pros- Steam and air crisp together for juicy, crisp results
- Cooks frozen food without thawing
- Replaces a toaster oven, air fryer and rice cooker
Cons- No pressure cooking at all
- Large footprint on the counter
- Pricier than the pressure cookers
- 5. Best for Big Batches
Ninja PossibleCooker PRO
BeastScore 85 / 100Typically $120–$140 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)If you picked a pressure cooker mostly to slow cook, the PossibleCooker PRO is the better tool. It has no pressure function; instead it has an 8.5-quart rectangular pot that fits a full rack of ribs or a 9 lb brisket, with Triple Fusion Heat from the bottom, sides and steam. The listing says a 6 lb chicken finishes up to 30% faster than a conventional oven. Eight functions include slow cook, sear/sauté, steam, braise, bake, sous vide and proof. The nonstick pot is oven safe to 500°F, so you can finish a roast under the broiler, and cleanup is simple. Skip it if you want fast weeknight beans: without pressure, nothing here cooks quickly.
Pros- Huge 8.5 qt pot for batch cooking and entertaining
- Pot is oven safe to 500°F
- Often costs less than the Ninja pressure cookers
Cons- No pressure cooking, so slower for beans and stews
- Too large for small kitchens
- Nonstick coating needs gentle care

- Round 1
Pressure cooking
Instant Pot Duo Plus winsThe Duo Plus is the classic pressure cooker with a very large owner base, 15 smart programs and an Easy-Release switch. The Ninja HyperHeat builds pressure quickly, so it is a close second. The Combi and PossibleCooker do not pressure cook at all.
- Round 2
Air frying and crisping
Ninja Combi SFP701 winsThe Ninja Combi cooks with steam and air at once, so food is juicy and crisp, and it fits a 10-inch pizza and a 6 lb chicken. The Duo Crisp has a 450°F air fry lid but a smaller basket. The pressure-only models cannot crisp.
- Round 3
Speed
Ninja HyperHeat PC201 winsNinja says HyperHeat builds pressure quickly and cooks up to 2x faster than slow cooking, with white rice in as little as 8 minutes. The Combi finishes a whole meal in about 15 minutes, but it is a different style of cooking.
- Round 4
Easy cleanup
Ninja HyperHeat PC201 winsThe HyperHeat’s PFAS-free ceramic pot wipes clean. The PossibleCooker is also nonstick and easy to wash. Stainless steel pots on the Instant Pots are tough, but they take more scrubbing and a little oil to avoid sticking.
- Round 5
Versatility
Ninja Combi SFP701 winsWith 14 functions, the Combi replaces a toaster oven, air fryer, rice cooker and steamer. The Duo Crisp is the best pressure-plus-crisp option with 11 functions. If you want the widest range on one counter, the Combi wins.
- Round 6
Value
Instant Pot Duo Plus winsThe Duo Plus costs about $70 to $90 and has nine functions including sous vide. The PossibleCooker is the next cheapest at about $120 to $140. Every other model here costs at least $40 more than the Duo Plus.

Quick tips before you buy
6 qt feeds up to six people. Go to 8 qt or larger for big families or batch cooking.
Only the Instant Pots and the Ninja HyperHeat pressure cook. The Combi and PossibleCooker do not.
Stainless lasts longer. Ceramic nonstick cleans faster but needs gentle tools.
Combo lids and the Combi oven need more room to use and store than a plain 6 qt pot.
Quick answers
Is Instant Pot or Ninja better?+
Instant Pot is the better buy if you want a classic pressure cooker with a stainless pot and a low price. Ninja is better if you want faster pressure build, a PFAS-free nonstick pot, or a steam and air fry oven. Both brands make good products.
Is the Ninja Foodi the same as an Instant Pot?+
Not quite. Ninja Foodi was Ninja’s line of pressure cookers with a crisping lid. The current Ninja models on Amazon have newer names such as HyperHeat and Combi. They cover the same jobs as the Instant Pot, with some extra features.
Does the Instant Pot Duo Crisp really air fry?+
Yes. Its second lid has an air fry mode from 70°F to 450°F. The basket is smaller than a dedicated air fryer, so it suits small batches better than a full family tray.
Which cooks faster, Instant Pot or Ninja?+
Ninja says HyperHeat cooks up to 2x faster than slow cooking, and owners report faster pressure build than the Instant Pot. Cooking time itself is similar once under pressure. Time to reach pressure is where the Ninja saves minutes.
Is the Ninja Combi a pressure cooker?+
No. The Combi uses super-heated steam and air, not pressure. It is a countertop oven that steams, air fries, bakes and cooks frozen food without defrosting. Choose a pressure cooker if you want fast beans or tough cuts.
What size Instant Pot do I need?+
A 6 quart pot feeds up to six people and is the most popular size. Choose 8 quarts for four or more people who like leftovers, and a 3 quart mini for one or two people.
Are the nonstick pots safe?+
The Ninja HyperHeat listing says its ceramic pot is 100% PFAS-free. Any nonstick coating wears over time, so avoid metal tools and abrasive pads. If you want zero coating, buy the stainless Instant Pot.
