PS5 Slim vs PS5 Pro
Is the Pro worth it?
Our overall winner is the PS5 Slim (Disc Edition). Every PS5 game runs on both consoles. The PS5 Pro makes some of them look sharper and run smoother, but it costs a lot more and has no disc drive. Here is who should buy which.

The short answer
For most people, the PS5 Slim (Disc Edition) is the one to buy. It plays every PS5 game, has a 1 TB SSD and a built-in disc drive, so you can buy cheaper used games and play Blu-rays.
The PS5 Pro is worth it if you have a 4K TV with 120Hz and care about graphics. Its AI upscaling (PSSR), higher frame rates and better ray tracing make enhanced games look clearly sharper and smoother. Two catches: these upgrades only apply to games that have been updated for the Pro, and there is no disc drive in the box.
Already have a PS5? The PlayStation Portal is the add-on to consider. It streams games from your PS5 to an 8-inch handheld screen anywhere in your home, at up to 1080p and 60 fps.

Who wins where
The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.
- Round 1
Graphics
PS5 Pro winsThe Pro adds PSSR AI upscaling and advanced ray tracing, so enhanced games look sharper on a 4K TV, with more realistic light and reflections. Sony notes these upgrades only work in select games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro.
- Round 2
Frame rates
PS5 Pro winsThe Pro reaches higher and steadier frame rates on 60Hz and 120Hz TVs in enhanced games. On a regular 60Hz TV the gap is smaller, so check your TV before paying more.
- Round 3
Storage
PS5 Pro winsThe Pro comes with a 2 TB SSD, double the Slim’s 1 TB. Big games take 100 GB or more, so 2 TB means less deleting. You can add an M.2 SSD to either console later.
- Round 4
Disc games and movies
PS5 Slim (Disc Edition) winsThe Slim Disc Edition has a built-in disc drive for game discs and Blu-ray movies. The Pro doesn’t: the disc drive is sold separately, which adds to its price.
- Round 5
Game library
TieBoth consoles play the same PS5 and PS4 games. Nothing is Pro-only. You get the same games, online play and PS Plus on either one.
- Round 6
Value
PS5 Slim (Disc Edition) winsThe Slim costs much less and includes the disc drive. For most players, that money is better spent on games, a second controller or a PlayStation Portal.

Sony asks for at least 5 Mbps, and recommends 15 Mbps or more for the best play.
Amazon also sells PS5 bundles that include a game. Compare them with the console alone.
