Sonos vs Bose Soundbar
Which brand wins in 2026

Our overall winner is the Sonos Arc Ultra. Sonos and Bose both make a soundbar for every budget. We lined up five from their current ranges, from a $200 compact bar to a Dolby Atmos flagship, and picked a winner in each round.

How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

Sonos Arc Ultra

The short answer

Our pick for the best premium soundbar is the Sonos Arc Ultra. It is the flagship of the Sonos range, with 9.1.4 Dolby Atmos, Sound Motion technology and AI-powered Speech Enhancement for dialogue. Sonos also wins on the breadth of its lineup, because every soundbar can join other Sonos speakers for multiroom music and can be expanded later with a subwoofer and rear speakers.

Bose wins on mid-range price. The Bose Smart Dolby Atmos Soundbar is usually priced well below the Sonos Beam Ultra, and it adds Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Alexa. At the bottom of the range, the Sonos Ray is the better-sounding streamer, while the Bose TV Speaker is the simpler choice: plug in one HDMI cable and it works, with a remote and a Bluetooth link.

Skip the premium bars if your TV room is small or you mainly watch the news and sports. A $200 bar fixes thin TV speakers just as well, and you will not hear the difference in surround effects. Skip Sonos if you want a bar with lots of built-in streaming options like Chromecast, and skip Bose if you want to build a multiroom system around one brand.

How we compared: we put five current soundbars from the two brands side by side, read each live Amazon listing for drivers, formats, connections and voice control, and read what owners report. We do not claim hands-on tests or lab measurements. These calls reflect the listing specs and owner feedback. Checked October 2026. If you want more brands, see our best soundbars guide.

Every pick, explained

Why each one made the list

What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.

  1. 1. Best Overall

    Sonos Arc Ultra

    BeastScore 94 / 100Typically $1,000–$1,100 on Amazon (checked October 19, 2026)

The Arc Ultra is the strongest soundbar either brand makes. The listing describes a new acoustic architecture with Sound Motion technology, and 9.1.4 spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, which is meant to place sounds around and above you. AI-powered Speech Enhancement detects voices to make dialogue clearer. Setup is one HDMI eARC cable plus guided steps in the Sonos app, and you can control it with the TV remote, touch controls, Alexa or Sonos Voice Control. It is also expandable: Sonos sells a matching subwoofer and rear speakers. The price is the obstacle, since it costs about double the Bose Smart Soundbar. It also needs an eARC-capable TV to get the full Atmos effect.

    Pros
    • Wide, tall Dolby Atmos sound from a single bar
    • AI Speech Enhancement for clearer dialogue
    • Expands with a subwoofer and rear speakers later
    Cons
    • Priced at about $1,000 or more before any add-ons
    • Large bar that needs a wide, uncluttered TV stand
    • Needs an eARC-capable TV for the full Atmos experience
  2. 2. Best Compact Atmos

    Sonos Beam Ultra

    BeastScore 90 / 100Typically $680–$700 on Amazon (checked October 19, 2026)

The Beam Ultra is the right-size Sonos for most living rooms. The listing gives it 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos with nine drivers, including upward-firing speakers, a wider soundstage and clearer separation than the older Beam. AI-powered Speech Enhancement helps with dialogue, and Trueplay tunes the sound to your room. You can control it with the TV remote, the Sonos app or your voice, and it joins the rest of the Sonos multiroom system. It is much smaller than the Arc Ultra, which makes it a good fit for a TV on a dresser. The caveats are price, since it costs noticeably more than the Bose Smart Soundbar, and the listing is new, so owner feedback is still thin.

    Pros
    • 7.1.2 Atmos from a compact bar that fits under most TVs
    • Trueplay room tuning and AI Speech Enhancement
    • Joins the Sonos multiroom system
    Cons
    • Costs more than the Bose Smart Soundbar
    • Newer listing with a smaller owner track record
    • Less bass than a bar with a separate subwoofer
  3. 3. Best Mid-Range Value

    Bose Smart Dolby Atmos Soundbar

    BeastScore 89 / 100Typically $500–$550 on Amazon (checked October 19, 2026)

The Bose Smart Soundbar is the main reason Sonos does not win every round. It packs five transducers, including two that fire upward, into a compact all-in-one body, and TrueSpace upmixes stereo and 5.1 content to sound more immersive. A.I. Dialogue Mode balances voices against the soundtrack. It has the best streaming support of any bar here: Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Chromecast built-in, plus Alexa and Bose Voice4Video, which controls your TV and cable box by voice. It is also often hundreds of dollars cheaper than the Sonos Beam Ultra. The trade-off is expansion: the listing gives no multiroom system like Sonos has.

    Pros
    • Five transducers with two upward-firing for Atmos
    • Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Chromecast
    • Priced well below the Sonos Beam Ultra
    Cons
    • Less room-filling than the Sonos Arc Ultra
    • Weaker multiroom story than Sonos
    • Owners rate it a notch below Sonos for build and sound
  4. 4. Best Small Bar

    Sonos Ray

    BeastScore 86 / 100Typically $200–$220 on Amazon (checked October 19, 2026)

The Ray is Sonos at its simplest. The listing says it gives clearer, more powerful sound than a small standalone bar, with a surprisingly wide soundstage and speech enhancement for dialogue. Setup takes two cables and the Sonos app. It streams over Wi-Fi, with AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect, and it joins other Sonos speakers for multiroom music. It is small, so it fits in front of a short TV. The compromise is what it leaves out: no Dolby Atmos, no subwoofer and no HDMI port, since it connects by optical cable. If you want a bar and a Wi-Fi speaker in one, it is a good-value way into Sonos.

    Pros
    • Easy two-cable setup with the Sonos app
    • Wi-Fi streaming, AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect
    • Compact enough for desks, dressers and small rooms
    Cons
    • No Dolby Atmos and no HDMI input, which is optical only
    • Limited bass compared with larger bars
    • No Bluetooth listed, so it streams over Wi-Fi only
  5. 5. Easiest Setup

    Bose TV Speaker (2nd Gen)

    BeastScore 84 / 100Typically $180–$200 on Amazon (checked October 19, 2026)

The Bose TV Speaker is the simplest bar in the group, and that is its appeal. The listing says a center tweeter focuses on speech while the left and right speakers are angled to widen the soundstage, with deeper bass than the previous generation. Dialogue Mode raises voices over background sound, and a bass button on the included remote adds more low end. Setup is one HDMI cable (included), or an optical cable sold separately. It also pairs with phones over Bluetooth. It stands just over 2 inches tall, so it slides in front of most TVs without blocking the screen. It has no Wi-Fi streaming, no multiroom and no voice assistant, so it is for TV sound, not for building a music system.

    Pros
    • HDMI cable included and a plug-and-play setup
    • A center tweeter and Dialogue Mode for clearer speech
    • Slim, just over 2 inches tall
    Cons
    • No Wi-Fi streaming, multiroom or voice assistant
    • Bluetooth only for music, with no AirPlay or Chromecast
    • Smaller soundstage than any Atmos bar here

Round by round

Who wins where

The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.

  1. Round 1

    Premium sound

    Sonos Arc Ultra wins

The Arc Ultra is the only flagship here, with 9.1.4 spatial audio and Sound Motion technology. Bose does not have a bar in this comparison that competes at that level, so Sonos wins the top end.

  2. Round 2

    Mid-range

Bose Smart Dolby Atmos Soundbar wins

The Beam Ultra has 7.1.2 Atmos and Trueplay. The Bose Smart Soundbar has five transducers, upmixing and far more streaming options, and it is usually cheaper. We give this round to Bose on value, and to Sonos if you plan to build a multiroom system.

  3. Round 3

    Compact and budget

    Sonos Ray wins

The Ray adds Wi-Fi streaming, AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect to a small bar for about the same price as the Bose TV Speaker. The Bose is easier to set up and has an included HDMI cable. Sonos wins on features; Bose wins on pure simplicity.

  4. Round 4

    Streaming and multiroom

    Tie

Sonos is the multiroom leader, since every bar joins the same system. Bose has the broader built-in streaming list on the Smart Soundbar, with Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth. It depends on whether you want a whole-home system or one flexible bar.

  5. Round 5

    Ease of setup

Bose TV Speaker (2nd Gen) wins

The Bose TV Speaker is plug-and-play: one included HDMI cable and a remote with Dialogue Mode and a bass button. The Sonos bars need the app, but the steps are guided and take a few minutes.

Quick tips before you buy

Check your TV ports

HDMI eARC gives the best Atmos. Many older TVs only have ARC or optical, which limits the format.

Measure the TV stand

The Arc Ultra is long, so leave room. Compact bars like the Ray and Bose TV Speaker suit short stands.

Turn on dialogue boost

Both brands include speech modes. Use them for late-night viewing and for mumbly shows.

Place it in front

Keep the bar at the front edge of the stand so sound is not trapped by a cabinet or lip.

Quick answers

Is Sonos better than Bose for soundbars?+

Sonos is better overall for a whole-home system: every bar joins the same multiroom network, and you can add a subwoofer and rear speakers. Bose is often better value in the mid-range, with the Smart Soundbar costing hundreds less than the Beam Ultra.

Which is better, Sonos Arc Ultra or Bose Smart Ultra?+

The Arc Ultra is the one we compare here, with 9.1.4 Atmos. Bose’s own Smart Ultra is in our best soundbars guide. In short: the Arc Ultra is the stronger Atmos bar, but it costs more.

Sonos Ray vs Bose TV Speaker: which should I buy?+

Buy the Ray if you want Wi-Fi music streaming and may add other Sonos speakers. Buy the Bose TV Speaker if you only want clearer TV dialogue, since it is plug-and-play with a remote and an HDMI cable. Both cost about $200.

Do I need a subwoofer with these soundbars?+

Not to start. All five give you more bass than a TV does. If you like loud movies, the Sonos bars can add a matching subwoofer later. The Bose bars are the more self-contained choice.

Do I need an eARC TV for Dolby Atmos?+

For the best Atmos from streaming apps, yes. An HDMI eARC port passes the full format to the bar. Without it, you may get regular surround instead. Check your TV’s manual before you buy an Atmos bar.

Can Sonos and Bose soundbars play music?+

Yes. Sonos bars stream over Wi-Fi through the Sonos app, and the Bose Smart Soundbar supports Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Chromecast. The Bose TV Speaker has Bluetooth only.

Are Sonos soundbars worth the price?+

They are for people who value multiroom audio, a polished app and expandability. If you only want better TV sound in one room, a Bose TV Speaker or Sonos Ray gives most of the improvement for about $200.
