Which DJI Osmo
should you buy?

For most people, get the DJI Osmo Pocket 4. DJI sells five very different cameras under the Osmo name. We sorted the 2026 lineup by what you actually film, from talking-head vlogs to POV clips and phone videos.

How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

DJI Osmo Pocket 4

The short answer

For most people, the DJI Osmo to buy is the Osmo Pocket 4. It is a tiny camera on a real 3-axis gimbal, with a 1-inch sensor, 4K up to 240 fps, ActiveTrack that follows you at up to 4× zoom, and 107 GB of built-in storage. If you film yourself talking, walking around a city or showing off food and travel, it gives you the smoothest, best-looking footage of any Osmo with the least effort.

The rest of the lineup is for more specific jobs. The Osmo Action 6 is the tough one: a waterproof action camera with a new square sensor, variable aperture and 8K video for bikes, surf and snow. The Osmo 360 shoots 8K 360° video so you can frame the shot later. The Osmo Nano is a magnetic, wearable POV camera that clips to your chest or cap. And the Osmo Mobile 8 is not a camera at all: it is a gimbal that makes the phone you already own shoot steadier video, for a fraction of the price.

Skip the Pocket 4 if you do rough sports, swim with your camera or crash a lot. The gimbal is the whole point of the Pocket, and a gimbal does not like water, sand or hard knocks. Get the Action 6 for that. And if your phone already has a great camera and you mostly post to social media, the Mobile 8 may be all you need. This guide is based on the DJI listings on Amazon US and what owners report; we did not test these cameras ourselves. Checked October 2026.

Every pick, explained

Why each one made the list

What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.

  1. 1. Best for Most Creators

    DJI Osmo Pocket 4

    BeastScore 93 / 100Typically See listing on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)

The Pocket 4 is the easiest way to get footage that looks like it came from a much bigger camera. A 1-inch sensor sits on a mechanical 3-axis gimbal, so walking shots stay smooth without any software crop. The listing adds 4K at up to 240 fps for slow motion, ActiveTrack that keeps you in frame at up to 4× zoom, and 10-bit D-Log for color grading. With 107 GB built in, you can shoot right out of the box. The trade-off is toughness: it is not an action camera, and the gimbal needs care around water and sand.

    Pros
    • Mechanical gimbal gives the smoothest walking footage in the lineup
    • 1-inch sensor for clean low-light video
    • Huge built-in storage and long 1080p battery life
    Cons
    • Not waterproof or built for crashes
    • Costs more than the Mobile 8 or a phone setup
    • Gimbal arm is fragile if you toss it in a bag without the cover
  2. 2. Best for Sports

    DJI Osmo Action 6

    BeastScore 91 / 100Typically $400–$450 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)

The Action 6 is the Osmo you can actually abuse. It is waterproof, the listing says it has a cold-resistant battery design, and it runs up to about four hours in normal conditions. The big upgrade is a new 1/1.1-inch square sensor with a variable f/2.0 to f/4.0 aperture, so it handles both bright snow and dim evenings better than older action cams. RockSteady 3.0 and 360° HorizonSteady keep shaky rides smooth and level. A square sensor also lets you reframe one clip for both vertical and horizontal posts. It uses electronic stabilization, so walking vlogs look a little less silky than on the Pocket 4.

    Pros
    • Waterproof, rugged and built for the cold
    • Variable aperture and a bigger square sensor
    • Direct pairing with two DJI mics for interviews
    Cons
    • Electronic stabilization, not a real gimbal
    • Wide lens is less flattering for close talking-head shots
    • Mounts and extra batteries add to the cost
  3. 3. Best 360 Camera

    DJI Osmo 360

    BeastScore 88 / 100Typically $380–$450 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)

The Osmo 360 records everything around it, so you never miss the shot: you pick the angle later in the app. The listing says it uses 1-inch 360° imaging for better low light than most 360 cameras and records 8K/30fps 360° video. On a selfie stick, the stick disappears from the final clip, which gives you those floating third-person drone-like angles for skiing or biking. It has 105 GB of built-in storage and up to 190 minutes of recording. The catch is time: 360 footage needs reframing on a phone or computer before you can post it.

    Pros
    • Never miss the moment: frame the shot after you film
    • Invisible selfie stick for third-person angles
    • Big built-in storage and long recording time
    Cons
    • Every clip needs editing before you post
    • Large 8K files fill phones and laptops fast
    • Bulging lenses scratch more easily than flat glass
  4. 4. Best Wearable

    DJI Osmo Nano

    BeastScore 86 / 100Typically $400–$450 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)

The Nano is the camera you forget you are wearing. It is a tiny, magnetic body that snaps onto a chest clip, cap or mount, so you can film cooking, walking the dog or riding a bike without holding anything. The listing gives it a 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/60fps with a 143° ultra-wide view and 10-bit D-Log M. This 128 GB combo also takes a microSD card. Owners like it for daily-life clips and pet POV. The sensor is smaller than the Pocket 4 or Action 6, so low-light footage is noisier, and this combo costs about as much as the Action 6.

    Pros
    • Smallest, lightest Osmo, easy to wear all day
    • Magnetic mounting is fast and flexible
    • 128 GB built in plus a microSD slot
    Cons
    • Smaller sensor than the Pocket 4 and Action 6
    • This combo costs close to the more capable Action 6
    • Ultra-wide view is not ideal for close vlogs
  5. 5. Best Budget Pick

    DJI Osmo Mobile 8

    BeastScore 85 / 100Typically $120–$150 on Amazon (checked October 15, 2026)

If your phone already shoots great video, the Mobile 8 is the cheapest way into the Osmo world. It is a 3-axis gimbal for your phone, not a camera, so image quality depends on your phone. The listing highlights 360° pan rotation, native tracking that connects straight to your phone, a built-in extension rod and tripod, and up to 10 hours of battery that can also top up your phone while you film. Owners like it for kids, pets and family events. The downside: it is bulkier to carry than a Pocket 4, and you still need to clip and balance your phone every time.

    Pros
    • Costs far less than any Osmo camera
    • Built-in tripod and extension rod
    • Long battery that can charge your phone
    Cons
    • Image quality is only as good as your phone
    • Bigger to carry than a Pocket 4 or Nano
    • Mounting the phone adds setup time

Round by round

Who wins where

The winner of each category, based on published specs and Amazon owner reviews. Pick the rounds that matter to you.

  1. Round 1

    Image quality

    DJI Osmo Pocket 4 wins

The Pocket 4’s 1-inch sensor is the biggest single-lens sensor here, which means cleaner video at night and softer background blur. The Action 6 is close with its 1/1.1-inch square sensor and variable aperture. The Nano’s 1/1.3-inch sensor is a step down, and the Mobile 8 depends entirely on your phone.

  2. Round 2

    Stabilization

    DJI Osmo Pocket 4 wins

Only the Pocket 4 and the Mobile 8 use a mechanical gimbal, and the Pocket wins because the camera and gimbal are built as one. The Action 6 and Osmo 360 use electronic stabilization, which is excellent for bumpy sports and horizon lock, but walking shots look a little less smooth.

  3. Round 3

    Toughness and water

    DJI Osmo Action 6 wins

The Action 6 is waterproof and built for crashes and cold. The Osmo 360 is also made for outdoor sports. The Pocket 4 and Mobile 8 have moving gimbal parts you need to protect from water, sand and drops.

  4. Round 4

    Portability

    DJI Osmo Nano wins

The Nano is the smallest and lightest, and its magnetic body means you can wear it instead of holding it. The Pocket 4 fits a jacket pocket. The Mobile 8 is the bulkiest, since it is sized to hold a phone.

  5. Round 5

    Creative flexibility

    DJI Osmo 360 wins

The Osmo 360 captures every direction at once, so you can choose the angle later, make the selfie stick disappear and create third-person shots no other Osmo can. It costs you editing time, though.

  6. Round 6

    Value

    DJI Osmo Mobile 8 wins

The Mobile 8 costs a fraction of any Osmo camera and makes the phone you already own shoot steadier, tracked video. If your phone camera is good, it is the best value in the lineup by far.

Quick tips before you buy

Water? Get the Action 6

The Pocket 4 and Mobile 8 have open gimbal motors. For rain, pools or the beach, pick the waterproof Action 6.

Plan for audio

Built-in mics are fine for casual clips. For interviews or windy days, add a DJI wireless mic.

Cold drains batteries

In winter, keep spare batteries in an inside pocket and swap them in when the camera slows down.

Think about how you carry it

If a camera is a hassle to bring, you won’t use it. The Pocket 4 and Nano are the easiest to carry every day.

Quick answers

Which DJI Osmo is best for vlogging?+

The Osmo Pocket 4. It has a 1-inch sensor, a real 3-axis gimbal and ActiveTrack that keeps your face in frame, so walking and talking footage looks smooth and sharp with no editing.

Osmo Pocket 4 vs Osmo Action 6: which should I buy?+

Buy the Pocket 4 for vlogs, travel and low light, where its gimbal and 1-inch sensor shine. Buy the Action 6 for sports, water and rough use, since it is waterproof and built to take knocks. Many creators end up owning both.

Is the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 worth it if I have a good phone?+

Yes, if you want steadier video and auto tracking. Modern phones stabilize well, but a gimbal still smooths walking shots and pans, and the built-in tripod and extension rod help for group shots. It does not improve image quality itself.

Is the DJI Osmo 360 better than an action camera?+

It is different, not better. A 360 camera captures every direction so you can pick the shot later and hide the selfie stick. An action camera like the Action 6 gives you a ready-to-post clip with no editing. If you hate editing, get the Action 6.

What is the DJI Osmo Nano good for?+

Hands-free POV clips. It is a tiny magnetic camera that clips to your clothes or a cap, so it suits cooking videos, dog walks, commuting and daily-life content. For low light or vlogging to the camera, the Pocket 4 is better.

Do DJI Osmo cameras need a memory card?+

Not to start. The listings say the Pocket 4 has 107 GB built in, the Osmo 360 has 105 GB, and this Nano combo has 128 GB plus a microSD slot. The Mobile 8 records to your phone.

Is the Osmo Pocket 3 still worth buying?+

It can be, if you find it at a big discount. It also has a 1-inch sensor and a gimbal. The Pocket 4 adds 4K at up to 240 fps, more built-in storage and longer zoom tracking, so pay the difference if the prices are close.
