Best MicroSD Cards
for Switch 2, GoPro and Drones
Our #1 pick is the SanDisk Extreme microSDXC. Not every microSD card works everywhere. We compared five popular cards on Amazon, from fast UHS-I cards for action cams and drones to microSD Express cards for the Nintendo Switch 2.
How we picked: we shortlist by Amazon Best Seller rank and number of ratings, then compare published specs. We don't test these products hands-on.

The short answer
The right microSD card depends on the device. For GoPro, DJI drones, phones and 360 cameras, the SanDisk Extreme is the card to buy: the listing says up to 190 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write, it is rated for 4K video and A2 app performance, and it is one of the most-reviewed microSD cards on Amazon. A 256 GB card sits around $60.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is different. It needs a microSD Express card, and a regular UHS-I card will not work as game storage. For that, pick between the SanDisk microSD Express, the Samsung microSD Express and the Lexar Play Pro microSD Express. They all cost more than a normal card, and the Lexar lists the fastest speeds at up to 900 MB/s read. If your device is not a Switch 2, you do not need Express: it is backwards-compatible with UHS-I devices, but only at UHS-I speeds, so you would be paying extra for speed you will not get.
Skip the Extreme if you only need cheap storage for a dash cam or a security camera: those do better with high-endurance cards, which are built for constant rewriting. Skip the Samsung PRO Plus if you want the very fastest write speeds for 5K video, since the listing quotes 130 MB/s write with Samsung readers. And never buy a card from a third-party seller you do not recognise: fake cards are common, and Amazon’s own listing for the brand is the safe route.
How we picked: we compared the popular cards on Amazon, what owners say about reliability and speed, and each listing’s specs. We do not benchmark cards ourselves, so this guide reflects the manufacturers’ stated speeds, which are maximums. Price bands were checked in October 2026.

Why each one made the list
What each pick does best, where it falls short, and the typical Amazon price when we checked.
- 1. Best Overall
SanDisk Extreme microSDXC
BeastScore 92 / 100Typically $60–$70 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Extreme is the safe default for cameras and drones. SanDisk’s listing quotes up to 190 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write for the 256 GB card, plus an A2 rating for faster app performance on phones. It is built to handle 4K UHD video, and SanDisk says it is shockproof, temperature-proof, waterproof and X-ray-proof. It is also one of the most-reviewed microSD cards on Amazon, so there is a lot of owner feedback. It does not work as Switch 2 game storage, and 5K or 8K video bitrates can push the limits of a UHS-I card.
Pros- 190 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write for 4K video
- Widely used in GoPro, DJI and Insta360 cameras
- Shockproof and waterproof protection
Cons- Not compatible with Switch 2 as game storage
- Maximum speeds are for the best-case readers
- Not designed for constant dash cam recording
- 2. Best Alternative
Samsung PRO Plus microSDXC
BeastScore 90 / 100Typically $45–$55 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)Samsung’s PRO Plus is the main rival to the Extreme, and the listing bundles a USB card reader for 128 GB, which is handy for offloading footage. It quotes up to 180 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write when paired with Samsung readers, and carries U3, V30 and A2 speed classes. Samsung says it is protected against water and extreme temperatures. It is usually a few dollars cheaper than the Extreme at the same size. The speeds are a little lower on paper, and you only get the best write speed with a Samsung reader.
Pros- Includes a USB reader for easy file transfers
- Rated U3, V30 and A2 for 4K video and apps
- Often a little cheaper than the SanDisk Extreme
Cons- 180 MB/s read is slightly below the SanDisk Extreme
- Best write speed needs a Samsung reader
- Not suitable for Switch 2 game storage
- 3. Best Express for Switch 2
SanDisk microSD Express
BeastScore 89 / 100Typically $55–$65 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)This is the straightforward Switch 2 card. The listing says it works with Nintendo Switch 2 and uses a PCIe-NVMe interface that SanDisk says is up to 4.4 times faster than its fastest UHS-I microSD cards. SanDisk’s ThermAdapt enclosure is designed to help manage heat, which matters in a handheld. The card is also waterproof, shockproof and X-ray-proof. A 256 GB card costs about as much as a Switch 2 game, so most buyers pick that size. It also works in UHS-I and UHS-II devices, but only at UHS-I speeds, so it is not worth buying for a regular camera.
Pros- Listed as compatible with Nintendo Switch 2
- ThermAdapt heat management for handheld play
- Trusted brand with durable protection
Cons- Costs more than UHS-I cards for the same capacity
- Wasted speed in cameras and drones
- Exact read and write speeds are not stated on the listing
- 4. Best Express Price
Samsung microSD Express
BeastScore 88 / 100Typically $55–$65 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)Samsung’s Express card is sold directly for the Nintendo Switch 2, and the title says so. It is one of the most-reviewed Express cards on Amazon, which gives it a lot of owner feedback. The 256 GB card usually sits right next to the SanDisk on price, so choose between the two on brand and availability. We could not confirm exact speeds from the listing, so we have not guessed. It costs more than a regular microSD card and it is not needed for a camera or a drone, since those use UHS-I.
Pros- Sold specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2
- Samsung brand with plenty of owner feedback
- Usually priced close to the SanDisk Express
Cons- Speeds are not stated in the listing title
- No benefit over UHS-I for cameras and phones
- More expensive than a regular microSD of the same size
- 5. Fastest Express
Lexar Play Pro microSD Express
BeastScore 87 / 100Typically $90–$105 on Amazon (checked October 18, 2026)The Play Pro is the speed leader. The listing quotes up to 900 MB/s read and 600 MB/s write (with a Lexar Express reader), and says it is about four times faster than typical UHS-I cards. It is sold as the perfect card for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a 1 TB option for big game libraries. It costs about $40 more than the SanDisk or Samsung 256 GB cards. The Switch 2 itself may not use the full 900 MB/s, so the speed premium is worth it only if you want the fastest card or plan to use it in a faster reader.
Pros- Fastest listed speeds at 900 MB/s read
- Available up to 1 TB for large libraries
- Backwards compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II devices
Cons- Around $40 more than the other Express cards at 256 GB
- Switch 2 may not use the full speed
- Full write speed needs a Lexar Express reader
