Key Takeaway

If you want a Fitbit with a screen, wait a few days. Google has teased a new tracker for October 12, and leaks say it adds GPS, an always-on AMOLED screen, ECG and up to 7 days of battery. The US price is not known yet; the leaked European price is €179, €20 more than the Charge 6. Buy the $99.99 Fitbit Air now only if you are happy with no screen. Google is about to launch its first new Fitbit with a screen since 2023.

On October 9, 2026, the Google Health accounts on Instagram and X posted a short teaser. The caption reads "Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26." The image shows the side of a small band with a long side button. Google has not said in plain words what launches on October 12, but the capital "Edge" lines up with weeks of leaks about a tracker called the Fitbit Edge.

Leaks from Android Headlines and from billbil-kun at Dealabs describe a band that sits between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5. It looks like the long-awaited follow-up to the Fitbit Charge 6, which came out in 2023.

Everything below about the Edge comes from leaks, not from Google. We will update this page after the reveal.

Specs for the Edge come from the Dealabs spec sheet, as reported by Dealabs and the5krunner. Fitbit Air details come from 9to5Google. The European Charge 6 and Pixel Watch 5 prices are from Dealabs; the Pixel Watch 5 battery and phone support are from the spec table the5krunner cites. Where a cell says "n/a in our sources", we did not find a number we could check.

What the Fitbit Edge adds

  • A real screen again. The Air has no display at all. The Edge reportedly has a 1.34-inch AMOLED touchscreen with an always-on mode. Sources disagree on the shape: Android Headlines describes it as oval, while the Dealabs sheet calls it rectangular. Photos at the reveal should settle that.
  • Built-in GPS and an altimeter. Leaks say the Edge can track runs and rides without your phone, and log climbs.
  • More health sensors. The leaked list includes heart rate, red and infrared SpO2 sensors, ECG-ready electrical sensors and skin temperature. Dealabs also lists VO2 max and more than 40 exercise modes.
  • A few small apps. Leaks mention Google Maps, YouTube Music (or media controls) and Find My Phone, plus phone notifications. Android Headlines says notifications will be less capable than on a Pixel Watch.
  • Gemini coaching. Dealabs says the Edge supports Gemini-powered coaching, and that some features may need a paid Google Health Premium plan.
  • Four colors. Dealabs lists Obsidian, Olive, Canyon and Fog, which match the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel Watch 5 colors.

The catches

  • The US price is a guess. Only the European (€179) and UK (£159) prices leaked. Android Headlines and the5krunner guess $149 to $199. Engadget thinks it could land closer to $180. Do not count on any of these until Google confirms.
  • No ship date yet. October 12 looks like the reveal. It is not clear when you can actually buy one.
  • Some features may sit behind a subscription. Google already pushes Google Health Premium with the Air, which comes with 3 months included.
  • Short battery with always-on. The leaked 7 days drops to about 2 days if you keep the screen always on.

Where each one wins

  • Fitbit Edge wins if you want a light band with a screen, GPS and ECG, and you use an iPhone or an Android phone. Leaks say it works with both.
  • Fitbit Air wins on price. At $99.99 it is the cheapest current Google tracker, and it has no screen to distract you.
  • Charge 6 wins only on deals. It is three years old, and the Edge looks set to replace it.
  • Pixel Watch 5 wins if you want a full smartwatch with Wear OS apps, and you are fine charging it every day or two. It does not work with iPhones.

Which should you buy?

  • You want a Fitbit with a screen: Wait for the October 12 reveal. The Edge looks like a clear step up from the Charge 6.
  • You want the cheapest Google tracker today: get the Fitbit Air ($99.99). It is on sale now and works with Android and iOS.
  • You find a Charge 6 on a deep discount: it is still a fine basic tracker, but expect Google's focus to move to the Edge.
  • You want a full smartwatch on Android: look at the Pixel Watch 5 instead of a band.
  • You use an iPhone: the Edge and Air both reportedly work with iOS. The Pixel Watch 5 does not.
  • Wait: if your current tracker still works, wait for real reviews of the Edge, its US price and whether key features need Premium.
