iPhone Duo Pre-Order Guide: Exact Time, Prices & How to Get One on Day One
Key Takeaway

Do the Get Ready step on October 12, lock in your color, storage, carrier, trade-in and AppleCare+ choice, then be on the Apple Store app before 5 a.m. PT on October 16. Supply is expected to be tight: reports put final assembly yields just above 60%. Prices run from $1,999 (256GB) to $3,199 (2TB). Pick in-store pickup if you can, and check that your carrier supports eSIM, because the iPhone Duo has no SIM tray.

Apple's first foldable iPhone goes on pre-order in less than two weeks, and launch stock is expected to be thin. If you want an iPhone Duo on release day, Friday, October 23, the work starts a week earlier.

This guide covers the exact pre-order time in your time zone, what every storage tier costs, how to choose between Apple, a carrier and an unlocked phone, and a checklist you can follow on the morning of October 16.

iPhone Duo pre-order dates at a glance

Step Date and time What happens
Get Ready Monday, October 12 Save your model, carrier, trade-in, AppleCare+, payment and address in the Apple Store app or on apple.com
Pre-orders Friday, October 16, 5 a.m. PT Ordering opens in more than 70 countries, including the U.S.
Cases and Folio Friday, October 16 Apple's iPhone Duo Case and Folio go on sale the same morning
Release day Friday, October 23 First deliveries and in-store pickup
Second wave Friday, October 30 28 more countries and regions

According to Apple's online store, buyers can "come back on 10.12 to get ready for pre-order." Apple has not said what hour Get Ready opens on October 12, so check the Apple Store app that morning.

What time do iPhone Duo pre-orders start in my time zone?

Apple sets the start at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16. Here is the same moment across the U.S.:

Time zone Pre-orders open
Pacific (PT) 5:00 a.m.
Arizona (most of the state, no daylight saving) 5:00 a.m.
Mountain (MT) 6:00 a.m.
Central (CT) 7:00 a.m.
Eastern (ET) 8:00 a.m.
Alaska (AKT) 4:00 a.m.
Hawaii (HT) 2:00 a.m.

Set an alarm 15 minutes earlier than your time. The store usually goes offline briefly before orders open, and the first wave of delivery dates can slip within minutes.

iPhone Duo prices: every storage tier

Apple's U.S. store lists four capacities, in star white and night sky:

Storage Unlocked price (Apple) Apple Card Monthly Installments (24 months, 0% APR)
256GB $1,999 $83.29/mo
512GB $2,199 about $91.63/mo
1TB $2,599 about $108.29/mo
2TB $3,199 about $133.29/mo

Apple quotes the $83.29 monthly figure for the 256GB model. The other monthly numbers are the price divided by 24, before tax.

The jumps are not even. Going from 256GB to 512GB costs $200, 512GB to 1TB costs $400, and 1TB to 2TB costs $600. For most people, 512GB is the value pick. Only pay for 1TB or 2TB if you shoot a lot of 4K120 Dolby Vision video, which the Duo can record, or you keep large offline libraries.

There is also Apple Upgrade, a new leasing program run by Klarna in the U.S. Apple lists typical payments of $57.99 to $92.81 a month on a 24-month lease, or $82.99 to $132.81 a month on a 12-month lease. You return or trade the phone at the end, so it suits people who upgrade every year or two. MacRumors notes that the old iPhone Upgrade Program has been discontinued, so if you were on it, plan a new payment route before October 16.

Why supply will be tight

Apple has not commented on stock, but the signs point the same way:

  • Low yields. On September 29, MacRumors relayed a report from China's Jiemian News, citing a Foxconn supply chain source, that final assembly yields for the iPhone Duo were "only slightly above 60%" as of September 17. The same source said it could take six months to a year to reach a mature yield.
  • Small production run. The report put Apple's 2026 stocking target at about 6 million to 8 million units, well below the 20 million to 30 million units a typical Pro model ships per cycle.
  • Parts bottlenecks. Samsung Display's foldable OLED panels and the hinge, which Apple says uses more than 100 components, reportedly had low yields and late deliveries.
  • A long rollout. More than 70 countries launch on the same day, so U.S. stock is shared with a large first wave.

MacRumors described early stock as "extremely limited." Expect delivery dates to slip into November within the first hour, especially for the 1TB and 2TB models.

Apple Store vs carrier vs unlocked: where to order

Option Best for Watch out for
Apple Store (app or apple.com) The fastest checkout with Get Ready, in-store pickup, Apple trade-in, Apple Card installments Apple trade-in credit is lower than carrier promos
Carrier through Apple (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) Big trade-in credits on a 36-month plan You stay locked to that carrier until the credits pay out
Carrier store or website Bundling with a plan switch or new line Carrier stock is often thinner than Apple's on launch day
Unlocked ("Connect on your own later") Prepaid plans, frequent travelers, resale value No carrier credits, full price up front or on Apple Card

Carrier offers listed on Apple's store right now:

  • AT&T: up to $1,200 off with an eligible trade-in (or $930 or $350 depending on the trade-in and plan). It requires a 36-month 0% APR installment plan, an eligible unlimited plan and a $35 activation or upgrade fee.
  • T-Mobile: up to $1,000 off with an eligible trade-in (or $700 or $500 depending on plan). Experience Beyond plans accept trade-ins in any condition. Credits apply over 24 or 36 months.
  • Verizon: Apple's carrier offers page did not list a Verizon-specific iPhone Duo deal when we checked on October 5.

eSIM is mandatory. The iPhone Duo is eSIM-only in every country, according to Apple. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon all support it, but if you use a smaller prepaid carrier, confirm eSIM support before you check out.

Trade-in: know your number before October 16

Apple's trade-in tool gives you an instant estimate during Get Ready. After Apple's September 15 update, MacRumors reported these top values:

Your phone Apple trade-in (up to)
iPhone 17 Pro Max $885
iPhone 17 Pro $785
iPhone 17 / iPhone Air $585
iPhone 16 Pro Max $610
iPhone 16 Pro $510
iPhone 15 Pro Max $455

A carrier deal can beat these by several hundred dollars, but only if you sign up for 36 months. If you plan to sell your old phone yourself, skip trade-in in Get Ready so checkout stays fast.

AppleCare+: is it worth it on a foldable?

On a phone with a $1,999 starting price and a folding screen, we think yes. The Mac Observer reported Apple's iPhone Duo coverage pricing from Apple's online store:

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss Cost
Monthly $19.99
Annual $199.99
Outer display or back glass repair $29
Inner folding display repair $99
Other accidental damage $99
Theft or loss $149

Apple had not posted out-of-warranty repair prices for the iPhone Duo when that report came out. Paying yearly instead of monthly saves about $40 a year. Pick your plan during Get Ready so you do not have to decide at 5 a.m.

Accessories to add during Get Ready

Apple's two launch cases go on sale the same morning as the phone:

  • iPhone Duo Case, $79 (sand, navy blue). A thin two-part case that covers both halves.
  • iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, $129 (navy blue, taupe). Adds a fold-out stand for video and FaceTime.

Both work with MagSafe, Qi2 25W and Qi chargers. Two more things worth adding:

  • A 60W or higher USB-C power adapter. Apple says the Duo charges to 50% in about 20 minutes with one, and the box only includes a USB-C cable.
  • A MagSafe charger with a 35W or higher adapter if you charge wirelessly. Apple rates that combo at 50% in about 30 minutes.

Expect very few third-party screen protectors for the inner display at launch. Apple puts a nano-texture finish on the inner screen, so do not stick anything on it that the manufacturer does not approve.

Your day-one checklist

By Sunday, October 11

  • Update the Apple Store app and sign in with your Apple Account.
  • Confirm your card is not expired and your billing and shipping addresses match.
  • If you use Apple Card, check that your available credit covers the full price plus tax.
  • Confirm your carrier account is in good standing, and know your account PIN.
  • Back up your current iPhone to iCloud.

Monday, October 12 (Get Ready)

  • Choose your color and storage. Pick a backup combination too.
  • Choose your carrier, or "Connect on your own later" for unlocked.
  • Add trade-in, AppleCare+ and a case.
  • Choose in-store pickup if a nearby store is available. MacRumors notes pickup stock is allocated separately from delivery stock.

Friday, October 16

  • Be in the Apple Store app 10 minutes early, with apple.com open in a browser as a backup.
  • Do not change your configuration at the last second. Each change rechecks stock.
  • Order the moment the button goes live, then check your email for the confirmation.

If you miss it: check in-store availability on the morning of October 23. Apple usually holds some walk-in stock, and the availability checker updates through the day.
