Nintendo's new motion-sports game has a date and a bundle price.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches on October 22, 2026, and it only works on Switch 2. A matching Switch 2 bundle goes on sale the same day for $529.99. Nintendo's US store lists the game at $49.99. Here is what you need to know before you buy.
Key dates
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| August 25 | Nintendo announces the Sports Resort bundle and a new Mario Kart World bundle |
| September 1 | Standalone Switch 2 price rises from $449.99 to $499.99 |
| October 22 | Switch Sports Resort and the Switch 2 + Sports Resort bundle launch |
We could not find an official launch time. Nintendo has not published one that we could see. Digital games usually appear on the eShop on release day, so check the store page that morning.
Bundle vs Mario Kart World bundle vs buying separately
| Sports Resort bundle | Mario Kart World bundle | Console + game separately | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $529.99 | About $549.99 (Nintendo's store lists $550) | $499.99 + $49.99 = $549.98 |
| Game | Switch Sports Resort (digital code) | Mario Kart World (digital) | Your choice |
| Switch Online | 3 months, Individual | 3 months, Individual | Not included |
| Best for | Families and party play | Racing fans | People who want a different game |
Nintendo says the Sports Resort bundle saves $27.98 compared with buying the console, the game and the 3 months of Switch Online one by one. The offer is while supplies last and can vary by retailer. The membership renews automatically at the current price unless you cancel it.
One thing to note: the bundle game is a download code, not a cartridge. If you want a disc-style copy, that means buying the game separately.
What is in Switch Sports Resort
The game has 12 sports in total, all built around Joy-Con 2 motion controls:
- Boxing
- Archery
- Table tennis
- Tennis
- Volleyball
- Bowling
- Basketball
- Golf
- Thumb wrestling
- Skateboarding
- Power cruising
- Prop plane
Skateboarding uses the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Game Informer also mentions jump rope, but describes it as a warm-up and not a sport.
Up to four people can play on one system. Online play needs a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and supports up to 16 players in some sports, such as bowling. Other sports, like boxing and table tennis, are limited to two players online.
Do you need extra controllers?
Probably yes, if you want to play with more than one person. Nintendo says multiplayer needs one compatible controller per player, and extra controllers are sold separately. The Switch 2 comes with two Joy-Con 2, so that covers two players at most. Our guide to the best Switch 2 accessories covers extra controllers and carry cases.
Is there a physical copy?
Sources disagree. Nintendo's US store page shows only a digital edition. The price-tracking site DekuDeals lists physical copies at retailers, from $49.94 up to $59.99. We cannot confirm a physical release from Nintendo, so check your retailer before you pre-order one.
Which should you buy?
- You do not own a Switch 2 and want a family game: the $529.99 Sports Resort bundle is the cheapest way in. It costs about $20 less than the console and game separately, and you get 3 months of online play.
- You mostly want to race: the Mario Kart World bundle is about $20 more. It also includes 3 months of Switch Online.
- You already own a Switch 2: buy the game alone for $49.99. Add a second pair of Joy-Con 2 if you plan to play with family.
- You want to wait: Black Friday (November 27) is about five weeks away. Nintendo rarely cuts its own prices, and no Switch 2 Black Friday deal is confirmed for 2026, so do not count on one. Waiting mostly makes sense if you want to see which retailers add gift cards or extras to bundles. Our Black Friday Switch 2 deals page tracks it.
- You are saving for Zelda: Ocarina of Time lands on Switch 2 on November 5. Read our Ocarina of Time price and release date guide first.

A fair question is whether $529.99 is a good deal. It is only a good deal if you want this game. The savings are about $20 to $28, and the console price is already $50 higher than it was in August.
